Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) Student Chapter
The AITP offers opportunities for Information Technology (IT) leadership and education
through partnerships with industry, government and academia. AITP provides quality
IT-related education, information on relevant IT issues and forums for networking
with experienced peers and other IT professionals. AITP will be recognized as the
Information Technology professional organization of choice, providing leadership opportunities,
professional development, and personal growth. All AITP students will be provided
opportunities to socialize with other student members, faculty, and IT employers in
the community. Members also participate in numerous community activities, such as
Relay for Life.
Construction Management Technology Club
The Construction Management Technology Club provides the enhancement of student knowledge
in the construction industry and local networking opportunities. In addition, students
participate in Habitat for Humanity activities every semester and attend construction
technology seminars sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers-ASCE.
Creative FX Club
The goal of the Creative FX Club is to create an awareness and understanding of the
Digital Arts program as well as creating a sense of community within its students.
We offer and condone the free exchange of ideas and the ability to network with designers
/ artists within our community.
Dental Assisting Club
The HGTC Dental Assisting Club is for students enrolled in the Expanded Duty Dental
Assisting program. The club's main goal is to provide dental-health education to the
community with a focus on elementary-age children. This club also participates in
Ronald E. McNair Club
Dr. Ronald E. McNair was a South Carolina astronaut and scientist who, along with
six other crew members, lost his life on January 28, 1986, when the space shuttle
Challenger exploded shortly after takeoff. This club was founded to honor and memorialize
his exemplary life and work. Membership is extended to any currently enrolled student
who completes a formal application for membership and pays the annual membership fee.
Its purposes are: 1) to promote academic excellence through achievement; 2) to provide
leadership development; 3) to provide a student support network; and 4) to explore
educational opportunities available to students.
Golf Course Superintendents' Association of America (GCSAA) Student Chapter
GCSAA is a curriculum-specific club serving Golf Course Management Technology students.
International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP)
IAAP is a student chapter of The International Association of Administrative Professionals.
Membership provides opportunities for personal and professional development. Members
engage in networking and mentoring opportunities with student colleagues, teachers,
and members of the business community. These students benefit from the opportunity
to sit for the Certified Professional Secretary ® (CPS ®) and/or the Certified Administrative Professional ® (CAP ®) exams. IAAP members actively engage in community service efforts.
International Student Union (ISU)
ISU strives to enrich HGTC through its two-part mission. First, the ISU assists international
students to acclimate to local culture and the academic climate of the college.
Additionally, the ISU unites the entire college community by conducting events that
promote cultural diversity and learning, enabling people of different cultures and
backgrounds to connect through the common academic experience. The ISU is open to
all college students and highly encourages all international or ESL students to join.
This club, comprised of Limited General Radiology students, was named by its first
class. Active participation in community-service projects is a priority for this club.
Members work closely with the Muscular Dystrophy Association and their efforts helped
raise over $160,000 in a two-year period. Also supportive of fellow students, this
club raised funds that enabled an HGTC student to receive a liver transplant.
Phi Theta Kappa
This prestigious national honor society of two-year colleges extends opportunities
through HGTC's Alpha Nu Sigma chapter. Recognized as one of the nation's best, HGTC's
Alpha Nu Sigma chapter earned “5-Star” status two of the past three years. Academic
excellence is a hallmark of Phi Theta Kappa, and membership is extended by invitation
and is based on a minimum 3.5 GPA.
Practical Student Nurses' Association
Practical Student Nurses' Association is a curriculum-specific club and is located
on the Georgetown Campus.
This curriculum-specific club serving Radiologic Technology students provides the
opportunity for leadership development and community service.
Rotaract Club Human Services Club
HGTC students are extended an opportunity to enhance knowledge and skills that further
their personal and leadership development. Members address the physical and social
needs of their communities through service work and projects, and promote better relations
between people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.
Society of American Foresters, Student Chapter
This club is curriculum-specific, serving Forestry Management Technology students.
Sonographers “R” Us
The club is for Diagnostic Medical Sonography program students only. The DMS Program
accepts 10 students every fall semester. The Sonographers “R” Us club plans and gives
a surprise party to the TMD (Trainable Mentally Handicapped) classes of Loris High
School annually. The club also donates clothing, toys, and decorations to the Children's
Home on Highway 90. The graduating class of December 2008 started a traditional golf
tournament to assist the Horry County Humane Society and the DMS Program. The funds
the students raise go toward their yearly seminars, recognition ceremonies, and their
professional society dues.
South Carolina Early Childhood Association
This HGTC student chapter works to increase awareness of the needs of children throughout
the development stages from birth through age five. Aid is provided to early childhood
students. Members attend early-childhood workshops and conferences and establish health
and educational standards for nursery schools, kindergartens, and other child care
Student American Dental Hygienists' Association (SADHA)
SADHA is a college affiliate chapter of the national professional association. Membership
is limited to students of the Dental Hygiene program.
Student Nurses' Association
The Student Nurses' Association is a curriculum-specific club that holds meetings
based on an agenda of interest to the professional development of the student nurse.
Ambassadors work to support a number of important programs at the College. Each year,
Ambassadors assist with New Student Orientation prior to the fall semester. In addition,
Ambassadors help with special programs and events throughout the academic year. Ambassadors
are selected through a competitive application process each spring.
