Types of tests administered [top]
Placement testing is designed to help you get in the right classes so you can get the skills you need to succeed.
The COMPASS test is a computerized adaptive testing system that helps place students into appropriate courses. It is designed to help determine a student's strengths and weaknesses in the basic skills of reading, writing, and math.
The testing system is easy to use: computer experience is not needed and the TESTS ARE NOT TIMED. 1 1/2 or 2 hours is the average time required to complete COMPASS, but do not rush. You may take as long as you need.
COMPASS is not a pass-fail test, but is used for appropriate course placement to insure successful completion of your academic program goals.
What type of questions can be expected?
There are three sections: Reading Skills, Writing Skills, and Math Skills. The Reading Skills portion consists of passages that are read and questions are answered about the content. The Writing Skills portion consists of choosing whether a passage is written correctly or should be rewritten according to an alternative paragraph or sentence. The Math Skills portion includes addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, fractions, word problems, and basic algebra.
